Upgrading to Leopard 10.5.6
February 5, 2009
It came in the mail a few days ago! I immediately opened the package and read through the instructions. They were very straight forward. Insert disk and follow onscreen instructions. And that is exactly what I did. I was excited to start using all of the new upgrades in Mail and iCal as well as checking out spaces and stacks. However, I was a little nervous because I was limited in the amount of free space on my hard drive. But besides taking a long time, the install went relatiely smooth.
After install though I ran into a problem. When I launched Mail it frooze. No viewer appeared and it would not allow me to close the program (something I have not experienced since switching to a Mac). I figured out how to force quit the program and then googled my problem and found a solution. Apparently quite a few people have experienced this problem. It was a fairly simple fix. I just removed the “com.apple.mail.plist” file from my library folder and then rebuilt my mail accounts. Mail then recognized all 12 of my email accounts and imported all of the saved emails I had.
There are still a few things I still have not used, but the changes to mail and iCal are pretty nice. I am not sure how much I will use “stacks” or “spaces” but I will see if I csan find a way to make them work for me. In all the upgrade went smooth and it allows me to upgrade iLife, which is what I am anticipating. That review is coming soon!
